Session length

The standard session is a 50-minute hour. The 10 minutes at the end of session are dedicated to scheduling the next appointment, and transacting fees. This time is also used to write a progress note on the completed session.

We also offer extended 80-minute sessions. This is a helpful option for those with a lengthy commute, or people experiencing a high level of distress. If the difficulty you are having is fear-based, an 80-minute session is often needed if we are facing fears (exposure therapy) in session. This is because it sometimes takes longer than an hour to begin to learn through the fear (desensitization).

Duration of therapy

The duration of therapy is determined by many things, including what your goals are, the nature of your difficulties and financial considerations. My service is on a spectrum, ranging from:

Therapy room mastermind psychology

Brief, solution focused therapy:

Ideal for individuals with a specific and straight forward problem who are looking to explore basic solutions.

Individuals wanting to enhance coping skills and identify strategies to reduce psychological distress would also benefit from this brief, time-limited approach.

Intensive, longer-term therapy:

Ideal for those wishing to work through multiple, long-standing and/or complex problems.

It is also excellent for those wanting to make a deeper level of change in their lives (e.g., changing attitudes, altering thinking patterns, refining self-concept, resolving long-standing pain, building self-mastery etc).
