MasterMind Psychology
Dr. Chantal MacDonald, PhD CPsych
I studied at the University of Manitoba and my research was in the areas of trauma and adult attachment. I completed my residency in clinical psychology at the Capital District Health Authority in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology in 2011 and I was registered with the Psychological Association of Manitoba in 2013.
I have been providing psychological services since 2004 and I have had the great pleasure of working with a wide range of people during this time. I worked at a psychiatric hospital providing psychotherapy to individuals with severe mental illness for 8 years. I opened my private practice, MasterMind Psychology in October, 2016 and I now work in the practice full time.
Approach to Therapy
I am a Rogerian, or client-centred therapist. I believe that every person has the resources needed for growth, self-awareness, and self-direction within. I help my clients connect to these resources and to their "authentic" selves so that they may live a life that is personally meaningful and purposeful.
I am well-versed in all four schools of psychological thought and I have experience with a great many therapeutic approaches (e.g., DBT, CBT, ACT, psychodynamic, existential etc). This always growing and integrated psychological awareness allows me to provide a holistic therapy experience tailored to the precise needs of my clients.

Approach to Therapy
A general goal I have as a psychotherapist is customizing my approach to the unique personality, needs, and concerns of my clients. I provide therapy for a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, loss, death anxiety, life transitions, and relationship difficulties. My therapeutic approach integrates client-centered, existential, and psychodynamic psychotherapies. In addition, I have been trained in and use a variety of other approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness.
